10 Surprising Things You Can Actually Ask for on a Plane

Even frequent or savvy fliers might not be aware of all the things you can ask for while flying.

It should be noted that amenities vary from one plane to another and what you can get on a puddle-jumper nationally may not be available on a multiple-hour flight internationally.

From eating an extra serving to childcare (you’ve read it right!) options, you can actually ask for these 10 things on your next flight.

There are many reasons why you might need medicine at 36,000 feet high, from hangovers and headaches to skydiving. The good news is the majority of planes have a potent first aid kit for fliers in need.

Just admit that your head is killing you because of last night’s too many shots and get the medicine you need before it gets worse.

#2 – Another Meal

You can get a second meal on a flight depending on the airline and many other things, such as the number of starving fliers or whether it’s an economy carrier.

So JetBlue isn’t the only one that will allow you to have an extra snack if you asked the flight attendants politely. In fact, the majority of planes have many extras just in case. With this in mind, go ahead and just ask (politely)!

#3 – Some Help with the Kids

If you’re a brave-enough-parent to fly with your kid, toddler, infant, or even more than one of them, you certainly know that the struggle is real and things often get out of hand. Fortunately, the majority of airlines offer many amenities for children, such as an attachable bassinet, tot-friendly snacks, and coloring pages.

Certain carriers even take things to the next level and would babysit your kid for when you need to use the bathroom or something. Surprisingly, some airlines even have trained nannies onboard, Etihad and Gulf Air are two examples.

And for long flights, for instance to the Middle East, Emirates welcomes the little humans on the flight by offering a special gift (called Fly With Me Monsters) that contains cartoons, coloring book, puzzles, a backpack, and blankets.
(Sound good enough!)

Emergencies rarely happen onboard, but sometimes they do and the passenger may need rapid and professional assistance. No worries!

In case you’re suffering or your life is at risk (e.g. experiencing a seizure or a heart attack), all cabin staff is trained to call for a healthcare provider, and in most airlines, there is at least one health expert on the flight.

#5 – Sanitizing Wipes

These are really important, given the fact that the cleaning staff never really has enough time to do some sweeping between flights, particularly at super busy airports.

So in case you forgot your sanitizing wipes in the rush of packing and are already disgusted by the dirty seat, armrests, or tray table, you can simply and politely ask for wipes.

Being on a flight can make you feel dehydrated and cause your skin to dry out, so having enough water is a must. It is recommended to bring your own bottle of water, which many flight attendants can refill for you if you kindly asked them to.

However, there are many warnings about the water quality onboard and it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Or fight your fear and have no worries that in case something happens to you while flying, you won’t actually write a will, but the pilot can hear it all.

As your soul prepares to leave your body, the words you utter to your pilot will serve as your last will-and-testament and even stand up in court.

You can actually pre-order a birthday cake while flying! It’s one of the best surprises to make your loved ones feel as special as they should be on their birthday.

Not many airlines offer this amenity but two of them currently do, notably Singapore Air and Emirates, you only should let them know 24 hours ahead for the cake to be ready.

Nothing feels better than celebrating your birthday high up in the sky!

Many of you would love to ask for a wine tasting on a flight, but only if you are a first or business class passenger. Also, not many airlines are offering this, only Singapore Airlines so far.

So if you’re flying with this airline on a first or business class, wine stewards can offer a wine tasting to choose the one that suits your meal best.
