In a world full of “let’s travel,” let’s probably just stay home! There are many destinations out there that can offer you the worst experience of your life instead. Every one of us has an inner travel lover that pushes us to explore new places every now and then, break the routine, and meet other populations.

We have all heard plenty of incredibly beautiful things about traveling that are true indeed, but you know what! There are terrible things no one is telling you about. Like almost anything in life, traveling has a downside as well.

go explore the world

#1 – The Food is Odd, Disgusting, or Both

There are some countries out there where people feed on insects, reptiles, and rodents, as well as many other weird things like animal organs and testicles, food cooked on the side of the road, and fruits you’ve never heard about before.

Foreign meals can be strange, shocking, terrifying, and may even cause you food poisoning or some serious tummy aches. To be safe, don’t travel or at least stick to the food chains you already know, if there are any, depending on your destination.

Any international news feed can keep you updated with the terrifying things happening around the world. People are raped, abused, mugged, kidnapped, and murdered, the world is becoming scarier every day more.

Not to mention the horrid diseases and infections you can get while exploring the world. You’ll need to get obligatory shots to travel but you may still risk dying from a mosquito-borne disease or getting rabies from a feral animal. To stay safe, simply stay home.

Of course, many populations around the world don’t speak English, so you may not feel comfortable with the huge language gap that miming will never be able to fill.

Those people might be speaking Scottish, Greek, Chinese (literally), or French, which means you won’t understand each other and you’ll struggle to make the right food order at a restaurant.

Moreover, the menu in your hand is very unlikely to be written in English and you may just starve alone before you decide that you’ve had enough of this weird language and come back home.

Some other countries can have some of the strangest and most shocking customs and traditions. I mean, there are plenty of social taboos, dress codes, rituals, and habits that an average American might find downright shocking and that may even ruin their travel experience.

While some cultural differences are anything from acceptable to awesome, other things aren’t really worth experiencing. Everything is just right and great at home, why bother traveling!

Travel doesn’t always smell good, it may also smell badly unbearable or even toxic. Many countries are good-looking but bad-smelling, while others have poisonous air that your lungs would despise from the first inhale.

This might be shocking but, in China, children actually poop on the sidewalk, while Paris smells like pee, and the famous romantic canals in Venice smell like stinky garbage.

The world is dirty and disgusting, and you might bring some nasty parasites
(or worse) home with you. Do not travel! If you do, carry hand sanitizer all the time and do not touch a thing.

If you’re anything like me, you must be very fond of your own comfortable bed which you cannot wait to see again at the end of every exhausting day. In this case, it’s super difficult to accept resting in unfamiliar beds in strange or frightening places.

What’s worse, people are being abused and even murdered in the heart of beautiful resorts in certain dangerous countries, while hostels can be the worst of all as you share one room with a bunch of strangers. Traveling may feel like getting ready to be kidnapped, robbed, or killed.

#7 – Travel is Unpredictable

Every single day, you open your beautiful eyes, take a refreshing shower, drink a cup of delicious spirit-lifting coffee, go to work, have lunch with your favorite person (yourself), come back home, have a nice dinner, watch TV, read, or walk, and repeat!

Isn’t it amazing! Of course, it’s not an extremely exciting and fun routine, but it’s your routine in which you feel comfortable and safe. On the other hand, when you travel, you can barely control a thing, not to mention the hassle and bustle and stress.

Your flight may be delayed, the line might be too long, plenty of precious time is very likely to be wasted, you may get lost, the weather may be terrible, and above all, nothing is likely to go the way you planned before packing your bag.
If you’re not as flexible as a hippie traveler, then you should just stay home.
